Hamburg must find a new coach for their next match against Freiburg after a request for current Rodolfo Cardoso to be allowed to continue in charge was rejected.
Cardoso does not have a coaching licence and, despite sitting on the bench for their last two Bundesliga matches, he will no longer be permitted to coach the club.
The German Football League (DFL) on Tuesday rejected Hamburg's request for a 15-day grace period to be extended.
"The DFL has not granted Hamburger SV's wishes of an exception in the case of Cardoso," read a statement from the DFL.
